Starting Your Financial Journey: Achieving Financial Stability While Balancing a Demanding Career

Today, we are honored and excited to bring you up close and personal with our client of 15-years, Zhi-Yang, who has journeyed with us since 2007.

There’s an adventure to every journey, and here’s a glimpse of his story and secrets to his success!

Starting the Financial Journey: Seeking Professional Help for Retirement Goals

The goal for my financial journey is to be able to retire comfortably and be able to amass a good sum for my family and children's future needs. In 2007, I realised I needed help to figure out my investment journey and to learn how to start managing my cash flow and various insurances, and I found Garry and Team GGO.

Overcoming Financial Overwhelm: Understanding the Market and Jargon

The start of the journey felt overwhelming, especially with the huge amount of financial instruments available in the market at the point of time, and understanding how each financial instrument serves its purpose on the overall scheme. Also, for a non-finance-trained person like me, I struggled heavily with all the financial jargon and associated terms.

To monitor these while taking on full-time teaching is honestly a struggle, as the physical and mental bandwidths will become overwhelmed just from the teaching commitment itself.

Concentrating on Career Commitments with Financial Planning Help

Understanding that I am just human and there is only so much I can take on in each moment, I placed my trust and affirmation in Garry and Team GGO to help me plan my financial goals and provide suitable recommendations according to my needs.

With that done, I am able to concentrate better on my teaching commitments while knowing that my financial portfolio is well taken care of by Garry and his team.

Gaining Wisdom and New Opportunities from Time and Financial Freedom

Having the extra time has allowed me to gain more wisdom and knowledge when transferring to a new school, and feeling appreciated by the new colleagues who accepted me for who I am. I also had new opportunities to learn new things, venture into new territories such as learning new teaching methods, embark on projects such as experimenting concepts, and improve myself as a person.

In the end, I looked at the long-term goals and said, “Okay, this is the right thing to do.”

Staying Invested and Focused: Overcoming Life Changes and Health Struggles

Throughout my journey, there were definitely moments when I sidetracked. Especially when major life changes like getting married, changes in my career options, and when my personal health had taken a downturn through these years and taking slow steps to recover.

I have managed to stay invested in the market for 15-years and achieved commendable results till today. While it is difficult to tell in today’s market where we will be heading, I feel confident enough to continue staying the course and focusing on improving my wealth. I’m now finally able to focus on my work and family commitments with a peace of mind.

Achieving Financial Wellness: A Sense of Gratitude and Accomplishment

Being able to take good care of my family with fewer worries today gives me a great sense of achievement and gratitude for starting my financial journey with Garry and Team GGO 15 years ago.

Words of wisdom

Some words of wisdom for anyone hoping to travel a path akin to mine:

trust the process, have faith in Team GGO, and it’s always good to read up and broaden our financial knowledge. In today's environment, inaction is a type of action. If we do not take action, market forces might push us along to undesirable outcomes. Hence, why not take control of our finances instead?
